Staff Sergeant Nathan Jones is on a mission to transform people’s lives using the power of the outdoors. Using his experience and expertise as an Adventurous Training Instructor (ATI) in the Royal Army Physical Training Corps (RAPTC), Nathan is already connecting those who are new to mountain biking with qualified guides and instructors through the Discover A Guide website.
The Discover A Guide platform has started to curate a community of the best guides and instructors across a wide range of different outdoor activities throughout the UK, including mountain biking, making it easy for people to link up with qualified and experienced experts in their chosen area. Users can simply search by activity and geographical area and the website will come up with a list of relevant guides and instructors. As the community grows, so users will be able to leave reviews and comments too.
As well as mountain biking, the easy-to-use website covers a whole range of activities, including: mountaineering, rock climbing, canyoning, coasteering, surfing, kayaking, paddleboarding, canoeing, bike touring, scrambling, caving and walking.
Nathan comments: “I see first-hand through my role as an Adventurous Training Instructor in the Royal Army Physical Training Corps the transformative effect that getting outside and getting active can have, helping to develop skills across a whole host of disciplines, including leadership, teamwork, physical fitness, confidence and both moral and physical courage. A lack of confidence is sometimes the biggest barrier to more people undertaking the different activities available around the UK, which is a real shame, and I wanted to find a way to help connect people with the vast network of fantastic, enthusiastic guides and instructors we have here in the UK.”
“Discover A Guide does just this, allowing adventurers who perhaps aren’t quite confident enough to go it alone or who want to become qualified themselves, to search for experts in different activities in their chosen location to guide them through experiences that are safe and accessible and, of course, unforgettable. As well, it provides a valuable community platform for the many unsung guides and instructors out there to showcase their skills and experience, helping to grow their businesses, connect and collaborate, giving them more time to focus on doing what they do best.” Free-to-use, Discover A Guide is open to new registrations from qualified instructors and from potential adventurers too.
