What to ride between triathlons: Jorvik puts leisure cycling on three wheels

What do you ride when the next outing is about enjoying the journey rather than preparing for a triathlon? Jorvik’s electric tricycles offer another way to get out on wheels, and the company’s latest community giveaway puts accessible cycling at the centre of the story.

Jorvik Tricycles has selected three community organisations to receive electric adult tricycles: Shopmobility York, Monty’s Bike Hub in Southampton and Cycling 4 All in Wrexham. The giveaway supports groups helping more people take part in cycling.

Cycling 4 All works across North Wales and the border counties. Its new tricycle will join the charity’s existing fleet, with trustee Karen Balmer explaining that the addition will help it reach more disabled and disadvantaged people. The winners were chosen for their community impact and how a tricycle could support their work.

A different way to ride between triathlons

For triathletes, cycling often means a planned session, a target pace and a familiar training route. Away from that routine, there is room for a different sort of outing: a trip to the shops, a relaxed ride with family or a chance to explore somewhere new without watching the clock.

An electric adult tricycle is one option to consider for those journeys. The appeal is the opportunity to choose equipment around the outing itself. Someone looking for everyday transport may have different priorities from a rider planning a weekend away, especially when storage space, carrying luggage or travelling with a partner comes into the decision.

Choose a tricycle around the journey

Jorvik divides its range into Everyday, Explore, Mountain and Mobility collections. Its tricycle buying guide positions the Everyday range for local trips and shopping, while Explore models focus on folding and portability. Mountain models are designed for riding beyond smooth surfaces, and Mobility models emphasise comfort and additional support.

That gives riders a starting point for comparing options. For an occasional leisure outing, think about where the tricycle will be kept and the routes you expect to use. For holidays or weekends away, check the folded dimensions against your available transport space. A test ride lets you assess the fit, controls and handling before choosing a model.

Keeping cycling open to more people

Jorvik’s origins reflect the same practical approach. Founder James Walker began looking for a suitable tricycle for his father, Stuart, who has Parkinson’s disease. That search developed into a business focused on providing alternative ways to cycle.

The community giveaway brings that purpose into local organisations already helping people get out riding. For Triathlon Insight readers, it is also a reminder that a shared interest in cycling can extend beyond race preparation. A leisure ride can be an opportunity to spend time with friends and family, explore at their pace and enjoy being outdoors together.
