Park proud of strength in depth as full team for UCI Cycling World Championships confirmed

With the full squad for next month’s UCI Cycling World Championships now confirmed, Great Britain Cycling Team Performance Director Stephen Park CBE has urged the nation to get behind our riders as they prepare to battle for rainbow jerseys on all fronts.

In total 200 riders will represent the Great Britain Cycling Team, including 39 world, Olympic and Paralympic champions over the 11 days of competition. These riders will be joined by a further 600 plus riders representing Great Britain in the indoor cycling, Gran Fondo, BMX freestyle flatland, Trials, BMX race challenge, mountain bike marathon and e-mountain bike events, with more than 200 coveted rainbow jerseys up for grabs.

Riders include 10-time Trials world champion Jack Carthy who will have his sights firmly set on number 11 in the 26” elite men’s category, while double national champion Lee Musselwhite will be contesting the BMX flatland event. And for those looking for something completely new, Great Britain will also be represented in the cycle ball and artistic cycling events, taking place in the Emirates Arena.

Stephen Park CBE said: “As a team we’ve been looking forward to this event since it was first announced in 2019, and I am truly humbled by the quality and depth of talent that we’ve been able to select across the full breadth of disciplines, including many of our sport’s biggest names.

“Being able to field medal competitive riders across such a broad spectrum of events is testament to the vital and ongoing support we receive from UK Sport and The National Lottery, and it makes me incredibly proud that our members and fans across the country will be spoiled for choice when it is finally time to get behind them next month.

“Totalling 200 riders, this will be our largest ever single delegation for an event, and I want to pay tribute to the phenomenal efforts which have been made by our team behind the scenes to ensure that our riders can arrive in Scotland fully equipped and prepared to perform at the highest level.

“As a proud Scot it has always been clear to me that this is the perfect stage for such a momentous event, and the team at the UCI Cycling World Championships have done a wonderful job at showcasing the very best of the country’s facilities, routes and stunning scenery. It will fill me with great pride to lead the team in my home city of Glasgow.”
